a special Bite the Candy series...

Never On a Sunday
Finish what you need to finish so you can get a day (or two) of rest.

Always sneaking in a bit of work on the weekends? (Or would that be a lot?)
When was the last time you took a whole day off, away from your business, let alone an entire weekend?

If you can't remember, you're running on empty. It's time to refill your well.

Learn to undo the can't-stop-working habit and reclaim your sabbath.

This is Bite the Candy turned on it's head. It's not about procrastination.
It's not about doing what you've put off. (Well, it is about you putting off R&R and doing something about that.)

Instead of focusing on the bottom of our to-do lists, we'll deal with what's on the top. We'll finish what we need to finish so we can press the pause button with confidence.

Because the only thing tastier than finishing?
Time in which you don't have to finish anything at all...

How It Works

At the beginning of the week, you will receive an email with guidelines about how to:

  • identify what you need to finish to enter the coming weekend without distraction or worry,

  • create a ritual to close the week - to help you transition from work-mind to play-mind and feel confident about being able to pick up where you left off come Monday, and

  • plan your R&R (if you haven't done this in awhile, you might be too rusty to trust your whims - habit may lead you back to work, so it's important to have specific activities in mind).

On the day of the session, we'll gather via a conference call to review where we are at with completing the essential tasks we identified at the beginning of the week, choose the most important of those remaining tasks to finish, and receive whatever guidance or support is needed to engage in our work for the next two hours.

After this finishing period, we'll come together again to share what we've completed, then enter into our ritual for closing the week for the next hour.

Following this ritual closing period, we'll come together for a final time to celebrate the accomplishments of the day and the week, share our R&R plans, and make our relaxed and joyful entrance into our weekend.

We'll practice this for three weeks, noticing the effects of time away from our business on our businesses (and our lives), each week building on what is most helpful to creating a more sustainable rhythm of work and play.
