My Story

When I launched my own business I was elated to be freed from the constraints of corporate culture. My virtual assistance practice grew steadily, but without developing systems tailored to my new work and life style, I soon fell back into the old patterns of managing my time and tasks and information that I had grown accustomed to during my office career.

Most of the time, work got done and my clients were happy, but I wasn’t enjoying my business the way I imagined I would when I began. Neat and tidy on the surface, underneath my business felt chaotic and I was constantly struggling against myself. I had recreated the very work environment I had hoped to escape. I was my own worst boss and my own worst employee.

Then one day, fed up with the struggle, I cried, “Uncle!” (seriously, that was the subject line of the email I sent my coach). Since then, I’ve learned through ongoing observation and experimentation how to organize my time, tasks and information in ways that feel natural and are effective. Perhaps most importantly, I became aware of the outdated, irrelevant “rule book” I was needlessly following and threw it out!

I’m writing a new rule book – one with organizational systems that make my work (and life) easier and more enjoyable, rather than a struggle.

You can rewrite your rulebook, too! If,

  • you are struggling break free from old patterns and establish new habits,
  • you have left the corporate world to make your own way, but are lapsing into old behaviors or beliefs that are ineffective in your new business
  • the organization and time management advice commonly found in business or self-help books isn’t working for you,
  • you periodically get organized, but can’t stay organized, or
  • you feel overwhelmed by the day-to-day activities necessary to run your business, or resentful of the ways those tasks often interfere with doing the work that is the focus and purpose of your business,

– there are solutions I would love to share with you! Don’t wait until you are overwhelmed and cry “Uncle!” like I did. Contact me now to develop organizational skills and systems customized to your individual style and situation, and get the support you and your business need to succeed.

My Professional Background

Third Hand Works has been helping self-employed professionals Get in Gear since 2004, providing administrative and design services to clients that have included arts coaches, a professional storyteller, an author/speaker, a television producer, interior designers, and landscape architects, among others.
